The Location:
Boca Sombrero is a spacious beachfront property spanning over 20 acres, and has been landscaped with care to promote privacy and to welcome wildlife. There are eight thatched-roof tent platforms and three houses: Casa Rio Sombrero, Casa Playa Sombrero and Casa Troya. The houses and tent platforms are just steps away from Playa Sombrero as well as the mouth of Rio Sombrero, an excellent place to take a fresh water dip. The yoga deck is a 9- by 13-yard hardwood platform built with bamboo and a thatched roof. It sits in front of the beach and comfortably accommodates a large group.

Lodging Options:
Rustic bungalows (double or single occupancy):
Our thatched-roof tent platforms are spread out on the magnificent 20-acre property. They are specially designed for comfort in a tropical climate. The thatched roof will keep you dry and cool, while a transparent material along the roof-line lets in light. The platforms are outfitted with beautiful, screened Moroccan-style tents whose special fabric allows for ventilation and guarantees dulce sueños (sweet dreams). The tents can be equipped with two single beds or one double bed. Each bungalow has a cozy porch for relaxing and a private, open-air shower adjacent. Shared bathroom facilities are nearby and conveniently located.
Please note that the Bungalows are truly "glamping", a canvas tent on a platform with no lights inside the tent, and while your personal outdoor shower and sink are right outside your tent, the toilet is roughly 100 feet away.
Dorm-style Housing (multiple occupancy):
Casa Playa Sombrero has an open construction style that allows for a steady ocean breeze throughout the living space and provides both ocean and lush garden views. Upstairs has a large open floor plan with a beautiful hardwood floor and a thatched-roof ceiling. This room provides three king-sized beds, 3 single beds, and a balcony with a spectacular view of the Golfo Dulce. Downstairs has a cozy living space, bathroom and a detached kitchen. Both the living area and kitchen open up to the large swimming pool, deck, and lounge area which is shared by all retreat participants. The common area pool has both deep and shallow areas - perfect for relaxing or swimming.
Please note that in the dorm-style housing, everyone has their own bed but you will be in the same sleeping room with 5 other beds.
Luxury Casas (multiple occupancy):
Casa Troya reflects the typical home design of the Osa Peninsula with its half-height walls and natural, local building materials. It has a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom downstairs, and a loft partitioned into two bedrooms upstairs. There is one king bed on one side of the partition, and two singles on the other side. The overall aesthetic of this home evokes a sense of movement as the lines of the structure resemble a wave, ship or an animal, depending on one's perspective. Casa Troya offers a comfortable and inspired place to spend your vacation.
**Please note that Single occupancy has their own private space for sleeping, but still shares common areas of the house.
Casa Rio Sombrero is custom-finished with fine hardwoods, an open floor plan, and a beautiful thatched roof. Upstairs the house has two bedrooms. One bedroom has king size bed and the other has a king size bed and a single bed. Downstairs, there is a central, open kitchen designed for gathering at the bar. There is a comfortable dining area and an artfully designed bathroom, detached from the main structure for privacy. The bathroom area includes a covered dipping pool - a refreshing escape from the midday sun.
Lodging Notes:
For all you "loners": If you do not wish to share a house with others that you don't know or stay in one of the Rustic Bungalows, please contact us for more lodging options.
For any "couples" coming together: We have alternative pricing for participants sharing beds.
For those traveling together, consider booking one of the houses exclusively.
Meals:
During the retreat, all meals are included. The cuisine is light and delicious with an emphasis on fresh produce. The wonderful staff prepares regional specialties and international dishes using local ingredients. Through the day coffee, tea, juice and fruits are available. The daily meal plan generally includes a light breakfast with a selection of fruits, granola and yogurt, a hearty lunch and a fabulous buffet dinner.
The fourth house on the property is Casa Grande, a spacious home where we gather to enjoy meals which also offers a comfortable and stylish lounge area for just hanging out.

Disclaimers:
Seriously, get ready to be unplugged! Wi-Fi is quite unreliable, so plan to be mostly out of contact with the real world during your retreat. Boca Sombrero is "off the grid", and the Osa Peninsula is very underdeveloped and in its natural state, which is why we think this location is ideal. The retreat center is on a dirt road and there are no nearby services, restaurants or shops except for in Puerto Jimenez which is a 40 minute drive. There is electricity in the Casa Grande and the three houses, but the property is situated in the jungle which means walks in the pitch dark and creepy crawlies abound (headlamp required!
